There are several studies showing essential oils and herbs preventing the growth of cancer and reducing existing cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Plants show great anti-cancer potential, and albeit expensive, human studies are the next important step in learning safe and effective dosages.
Studies listed below may be anti-cancer, cytotoxic, anti-tumor, anti-mutagenic, anti-genotoxic, or chemo-preventive.
Cytotoxic substances can be destructive to certain types of cells, and can induces apoptosis. This could be beneficial when fighting rapidly developing cells like cancer. Most studies are in vitro; more research and human studies are needed.
Anti-genotoxic substances protects cells from DNA damaging chemicals. In vitro and in vivo studies have been conducted on various herbs and essential oils. More research is warranted.
Chemo-preventative herbs may help reduce diseases caused by chemicals (especially cancer). More human research is necessary.
