    HEPATOPROTECTIVE

    • Limonin from Citrus aurantium exerts protective effects on liver toxicity.  From:  Mahmoud, M. F., Hamdan, D. I., Wink, M., & El-Shazly, A. M. (2014). Hepatoprotective effect of limonin, a natural limonoid from the seed of Citrus aurantium var. bigaradia, on d-galactosamine-induced liver injury in rats. Naunyn-Schmiedeberg’s archives of pharmacology, 387(3), 251-261.

    ANTI-CANCER

    • Apoptosis was induced by both limonin and limonin glucoside in lemon for use in treating colon cancer.  From:  Chidambara Murthy, K. N., Jayaprakasha, G. K., Kumar, V., Rathore, K. S., & Patil, B. S. (2011). Citrus limonin and its glucoside inhibit colon adenocarcinoma cell proliferation through apoptosis. Journal of agricultural and food chemistry, 59(6), 2314-2323.
