Ylang ylang are the strongly aromatic flowers from a tropical exotic tree.
Flowers are picked in the early morning and steam distilled to make a slightly oil essential oil that is light amber in color, and a very strong, heady floral sweet aroma. An absolute is more commonly made over an essential oil. Ylang ylang oil is given an oil grade based on the distillation process that yields differing oil compostions of extra superior, extra, grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3 (Petersen, 2015).
